It’s THE worst thing to be at a garden party or barbecue when you’re on a diet. Let alone with all the food temptations there are often drinks on tap and with alcohol packing 7 calories a gram (that’s almost as many calories as fat gram for gram!), it’s a sure fire way to fall off the wagon. This concoction jazzed up with a glug of tonic water and a sprig of rosemary makes for the perfect low-calorie drink to relax in the garden with on a balmy summers evening or to look sophisticated at a barbecue when you’re the designated driver.

The quinine found in tonic water is actually an anti-malarial drug which can also even help reduce muscle cramps and lower blood sugar too. It is actually toxic, however, at high doses…although you’d have to drink 20 litres of today’s tonic water for it to have this effect in most people! Importantly, large doses of quinine have been advised against during pregnancy – be sure to ask your midwife if you’re uncertain.
