COVID-19 Policy For In-Person Lessons

COVID-19 Requirements For Students To Follow …

  • You MUST NOT attend class if you or any member of your household is displaying symptoms of COVID-19 (high temperature, persistent dry cough, loss of taste/smell). You must stay home and isolate for at least 7 days (14 days if you don’t have symptoms yourself) and arrange a COVID-19 test by calling 119.
  • You must be willing for your email address and telephone number to be held by the studio and handed to track and trace should another student report a positive COVID-19 test.
  • You must read and agree to all studio policies before coming to class, these will be sent out after you book.
  • There is a 24 hour cancellation policy for all private classes, cancellations made 12 hours beforehand, due to COVID-19 ONLY, will be allowed to move, but please note that this may not be possible due to reduced teaching hours.
  • You must enter and exit the studio wearing a face mask, failure to do so means you will be turned away at the door. You will be asked to wear the mask up until the warm up begins and need to keep it with you to wear should you need to use the bathroom or should I need to administer any first aid. If you have a valid reason not to wear a mask please let me know in advance.
  • Immediately upon entry to the studio you must wash your hands for at least 20s with soap and water and/or use the provided hand sanitiser.
  • You must not arrive early or late for class. You will not be allowed into the building until the previous class has left. Furthermore, latecomers WILL NOT be admitted to group classes. If you are late to a private class you will lose that time off your class as we cannot finish later than planned due to increased cleaning procedures between classes.
  • You must come to class with your kit on (or on under your clothes) where possible and bring minimal baggage as there will be no use of communal lockers or changing areas. You must bring your own FULL drink as the kitchen areas will be out of bounds for students.
  • You must bring your own CLEAN pole cloth where possible or use a studio cloth and poles MUST be wiped thoroughly both before and after class with the cleaners provided.
  • You must maintain at least a 1m social distance at ALL times but this remains at 2m wherever possible. To aid this I ask that you stay on your mats near your pole for as much of the lesson as possible and to follow the markings on the studio floor at all times.
  • Avoid touching your face at all times during class, if you do you will be asked to go and wash your hands or use hand sanitiser immediately afterwards. Same with coughing and sneezing – catch it in a tissue, bin it and go and wash your hands immediately.
  • You MUST NOT attempt any moves not taught within the lesson. I usually give students freestyle time but as people are out of practice and I am not allowed to spot, moves will be restricted to start with. If you do not adhere to this rule you will be asked to leave immediately as you are putting both yourself and myself at risk by doing this.
  • You must be silent during warm ups, cool downs and demonstrations to ensure that I am not raising my voice and potentially increasing the likelihood of spread of COVID-19, music may be quieter than normal or turned off altogether for the time being. Please also avoid shouting across the room.
  • No food to be eaten in the studio so please ensure you have eaten beforehand or save it for after class.
  • You may want to bring warm layers as windows/doors will be open to improve ventilation wherever possible to help reduce the potential spread of COVID-19 within confined spaces.
  • Please note that, unfortunately, due to the current circumstances and to ensure good social distancing is maintained, photos and videos are only to be taken by myself as the instructor for the time being.
  • Please bring your own grip as grip cannot be shared.
  • Students are to let me know in advance of any allergies to cleaning products by emailing me.
  • Please note that failure to abide by these rules will result in you being asked to leave immediately due to the risk posed to the other students and staff in the building.

As the instructor my promise to my students is as follows …

  • To ensure the studio space (including equipment, mats and floor) and toilet facilities are cleaned down both before and after or in-between every class.
  • Wear a mask for the duration of class apart from when warming up or demoing.
  • Always wash my hands or use hand sanitiser after touching my face or if I have to spot a student for any reason.
  • Ensure that each student has a piece of equipment to themselves and to only use my own piece of equipment to teach and demo on. Any over-bookings that breach this will be rearranged, this is non-negotiable.
  • Maintain social distancing where possible unless there is a risk to someone’s life (i.e. administration of first aid or catching someone falling). In the result of a serious first aid incident, there will be no administration of mouth to mouth, only CPR. In the case of smaller first aid incidents the student MUST apply a face mask before receiving any treatment.
  • Ensure the studio space is as well ventilated as possible by opening widows (where it is not a risk that students can become too cold and injure themselves).
  • Ensure that other students are following the rules and remove anyone from class who may be putting others at risk through their actions.
  • I will pass all data to the studio owner in the case of any confirmed COVID-19 cases within the classes I teach and ensure that each person in the class is told to isolate.
  • I will be running classes focusing on reconditioning, going over a lot of the basics to begin with, and will not teach anything that people are not comfortable with attempting without spotting for the time being. More advanced moves can only happen going forwards if students are operating over a thick, high quality crash mat and, even then only after they have completed all the reconditioning. So please bear in mind that classes may start off a little different to normal as we all work back to full strength.
  • I will make available the list of cleaning products to be used so that people can check for any allergens, if you have any concerns please pop me an email.
  • I will do as much as I possibly can to ensure the wellbeing of everyone involved but you are still partaking in classes at your own risk and there is still a small risk that you could catch COVID-19. Exercising in a closed space may lead to increased transmission of COVID-19 should there be a confirmed case in class and people carrying in the virus can be completely symptomless. Therefore, if you yourself are particularly vulnerable (diabetes, asthma, COPD, taking immune suppressants or undergoing chemotherapy etc.) or have to go back home to vulnerable people please consider the impact this could have before signing back up to class straight away.
